NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Johannes Ingildsen and Brian Berdusco would grind out a tight doubles match in the consolation doubles draw at the ITA National Fall Championships, as the duo prevailed to move into Friday's quarterfinals in Newport Beach. Though Ingildsen and Berdusco won, fellow Gators Duarte Vale and Lukas Greif would be knocked out of the event's competition, as both suffered losses in the consolation singles draw to see their fall seasons come to an end on Thursday.

No. 4 Ingildsen and Berdusco would close the second day of competition for the Gators at The Tennis Club of Newport Beach, slated to face Iowa's Matt Clegg and Nikita Snezhko in the consolation doubles round of 16.

The Gators found a good rhythm to start, holding the lead throughout the first set before trading games at 5-3 to claim the first set over Clegg and Snezhko, 6-4. The Hawkeyes bounced back in the second set, though, Ingildsen and Berdusco would keep it close, seeing the match knotted at 2-2 and 4-4 throughout the set. Exchanging games once again, the Hawkeyes would take a 6-5 lead, before the Gators held off the game point to send the game into a tiebreaker at 6-6.

With the match on the line, the Gators jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, closing out Clegg and Snezhko in tiebreak, 6-4, 7-6 (5), for their fifth win together this fall to move into the consolation quarterfinals.

However, the Gators unfortunately wouldn't see the same success earlier in the day in consolation singles.

No. 52 Duarte Vale met Illinois' No. 23 Alex Brown in his consolation opener, claiming a dominant 6-2 victory in the first set to start out. Brown answered with a decisive 6-1 effort in the second to come back to life, as Vale would fight hard in the third set but ultimately come up short to fall, 6-2, 1-6, 4-6, in the consolation draw. The loss ends a remarkable fall season for Vale, finishing with a 13-2 record in singles, including six wins over ranked opponents, and three singles titles on the year.

No. 70 Lukas Greif unfortunately would suffer the same fate as Vale, coming up short in the consolation draw to Texas' Siem Woldeab in straight set, 6-2, 6-2. Despite the early exit, the sophomore also finished with a solid fall campaign, concluding the fall slate with a 10-7 singles record, including a pair of ranked wins.
