Stokowski, Guarente Produce Historic Times on Day Four

Stokowski has the second-best swim in UF history for the 100 Back and Guarente holds the second-best time in the Florida record book for the 100 Breast.

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Florida men's swimming & diving team finished day four of the 2019 SEC Championships on Friday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. Kacper Stokowski and Marco Guarente posted the second-best times in Florida history in their respective events to help Florida stay in first place with 868 points.

Maxime Rooney started the finals with a career-best swim of 1:40.87 to finish the 200 Fly A Final in second place. Rooney's time is the fourth-fastest swim in UF history. Erge Gezmis placed seventh in the A Final with a mark of 1:43.90.

Stokowski posted a blistering time of 45.31 and placed second in the 100 Back A Final. His swim was the second-best in program history and was a personal best. Bayley Main finished fifth with a career-best swim of 45.62 and claimed the fourth-fastest mark in the Florida record books. Clark Beach placed third in the B Final with a personal-best mark of 46.54. Brennan Balogh finished in fourth with a time of 46.73. With a career-best time of 46.97, Dakota Mahaffey finished in fifth.

Guarente etched his name in the history book, as he clocked the second-best time in the 100 Breast with a career-best 52.12. Guarente finished the A Final in third place. Stanley Wu recorded a time of 53.58 and finished the C Final in fifth place.

Main, Guarente, Stokowski, and Kieran Smith combined for the fastest time this season in the 400 Medley Relay. The group collected a time of 3:05.77 and placed fourth.

In the 200 Fly prelims, Rooney notched a personal-best time of 1:42.32 on his way to the fourth-best swim. Gezmis also qualified for the A Final as he set a career-best mark of 1:43.36 and finished the prelims in sixth.

All five swimmers in the 100 Back prelims made a final. Stokowski tied for the second-fastest swim in prelims with a time of 45.47. Main came in fourth with a mark 45.66 to make the A Final. Balogh, Beach, and Mahaffey all qualified for the B Final. Balogh posted a personal-best 46.49 and had the 11th-fastest mark in prelims. Beach clocked a career-best swim of 46.74 and finished in 12th. Mahaffey placed 13th in prelims with a swim of 47.10.

Guarente collected a time of 52.36 as he placed fourth in the 100 Breast prelims and qualified for the A Final. Wu made the C Final with his swim of 53.47, for the 17th best in the prelims.

The Final day of the 2019 SEC Championships begins with the 200 Back prelims at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday.
