GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida will conclude its three-match homestand with another top-10 match.
The Gators will welcome defending National Champions and No. 2 Wake Forest to the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Wednesday. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
Wake Forest defeated Ohio State 4-2 last season to earn its first NCAA title. The Demon Deacons have only lost seven matches in the past three seasons, but one of those losses came against Florida last season in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Florida is coming off a top-10 conference win against Mississippi State on Sunday. The Gators dropped the doubles point, but tallied five consecutive singles wins to top their conference rival and extended their winning streak at home to 10 matches.
No. 8 Florida comes into the match as the top-ranked SEC team and features four players ranked in the ITA singles top-80. Florida also put four doubles pairs in the top-80 of the ITA doubles list.
Scouting the Demon Deacons
Wake Forest sits at No. 2 in the recent Oracle/ITA rankings. The Demon Deacons enter the match having won nine of their last 10, with the lone loss coming in the ITA National Indoor Championship to top-ranked Ohio State. Wake Forest is 7-2 against nationally ranked opponents, but in its last outing the Demon Deacons struggled to get past No. 48 UCF, holding on for a 4-3 victory despite dropping the doubles point. Wake Forest has four ranked singles players in the top-90, led by No. 2 Petros Cyrysochos. Cyrysochos and Bar Botzer also make up the Demon Deacons only ranked doubles tandem. The pair comes in at No. 35.
