GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida senior
Yanis David picked up right where she left off indoors in her signature event, and the Gators' trio of relay teams threw down times that rank in the top three nationally Saturday, the third and final day of the Pepsi Florida Relays.
David posted a pair of 14-meter triple jumps (one of which was wind-legal), with her NCAA-leading mark being a wind-aided 14.05 meters (46 feet, 1.25 inches). The indoor national champion was the top collegiate finisher in a competition that produced the nation's top two marks, and she finished 37 centimeters (1 foot, 2.5 inches) ahead of the next-best collegian.
The men's 4x100 relay team of junior
Raymond Ekevwo, sophomore
Hakim Sani Brown, junior
Grant Holloway, and senior
Ryan Clark clocked the nation's third-fastest time (38.69 seconds) and missed the program's All-Time Top 10 list by one hundredth of a second. The quartet shaved five hundredths off last week's season-opening time.
Holloway doubled back in the 4x400 relay and anchored the team of fifth-year senior
Jabari Hill, sophomore
Chantz Sawyers, and junior
Denzel Villaman to the nation's second-fastest time (3:03.25). In almost a direct parallel to his viral video from three years ago, Holloway took the baton in fifth place and nearly hawked everyone ahead of him before settling for second, 0.15 seconds behind Iowa's national lead.
The women's 4x4 quartet of sophomore
Taylor Manson, senior
Sharrika Barnett, sophomore
Nikki Stephens, and freshman
Doneisha Anderson also impressed, running the nation's second-fastest time (3:27.76). Barnett's unofficial 49.7-second split put the Gators just 0.23 seconds behind South Carolina, the indoor national champions and newly-minted outdoor national leader.
Back in the women's triple jump, fifth-year senior
Asa Garcia and junior
Kala Penn both recorded national top 10s. Garcia posted a wind-aided 13.36 meters (43 feet, 10 inches) and tied the No. 5-ranked mark in Division I, while Penn's best mark of 13.15 meters (43 feet, 1.75 inches) ranks seventh nationally. Garcia also posted a wind-legal jump in her sequence that moved her to sixth on program's All-Time Top 10. Penn became the No. 8-ranked jumper on the school list.
Redshirt sophomore
Connor Bandel rounded out Florida's strong showing with the nation's No. 9-ranked mark in the shot put (18.91 meters / 62 feet, 0.5 inches).
The Gators take a breather from competition for three weeks, with April 20th's LSU Alumni Gold being the next meet on their outdoor schedule.
