GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida earned its second conference win of the season on Friday with a 6-1 win over Ole Miss as the Gators opened a conference-filled weekend at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
The No. 9 Gators took an early 1-0 lead as
Oliver Crawford and
Andy Andrade clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 decision on court 3.
Johannes Ingildsen and
Alfredo Perez grabbed the first doubles win, 6-3.
McClain Kessler and
Duarte Vale were down a break when the doubles point was won and their match was abandoned.
Florida took control in singles, winning four of the first sets. Vale put the Gators up 2-0 after rolling past Jan Soren Hain 6-2, 6-0. Crawford found his rhythm again with a 2-set decision over #73 Tim Sandkaulen, ending a four-match losing streak.
Freshman
Lukas Greif clinched the victory for the Gators, earning his second conference win. Greif defeated Simon Junk 6-1, 6-4 and has now clinched two matches for Florida in his debut season.
Sam Riffice added another point, putting Florida up 5-0 as he battled Fabian Fallert on court 3. The freshman earned a 6-4, 6-3 decision and earned his second career SEC win.
Ole Miss earned its only point of the match as
Johannes Ingildsen dropped just his second singles match of the dual season. The junior forced a third set after falling in the first set, but couldn't hold on as Karlo Kranic won the 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match.
Andrade finished off the Rebels with a 3-set win of his own. After dropping the first set in tiebreak, Andrade cruised back and took the second set 6-2, which forced a 10-point tiebreaker. The sophomore won the tiebreak 10-3 and earned the final point of the match for the Gators.
The Gators improve to 41-22 over the Rebels and remain undefeated in conference play. Ole Miss falls to 0-3 in the SEC.
Up next, Florida will welcome No. 10 Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs' match at South Carolina on Friday was suspended due to weather and they will resume play on Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m.
