
Strong Singles Play Pushes No. 9 Gators Past No. 10 Mississippi State

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida earned a huge conference win over Mississippi State in a top-10 SEC match at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Despite dropping the doubles point, Florida surged back behind powerful singles performances to defeat the Bulldogs 5-2, earning its third conference win of the season, ninth overall.
No. 10 Mississippi State took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The Bulldogs boast two top-10 doubles pairs, who currently play No. 1 and No. 2. Oliver Crawford and Sam Riffice improved to a team-best 7-1 after their win on court 3.
No. 9 Florida didn't take long to bounce back though. The Gators took five of the six first sets and didn't let up heading into the second.
Freshmen Lukas Greif and Sam Riffice continued their hot start to the conference season with 2-set decisions on five and three, respectively. Greif and Riffice are each 3-0 in SEC play.
Andy Andrade earned his fourth straight victory with a tight 6-4, 7-5 match on court 2. Johannes Ingildsen clinched the top-10 match for the Gators at the No. 4 position in a thrilling 3-set victory, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Mississippi State got it's only singles victory on court 1 as No. 24 Crawford fell to No. 3 Nuno Borges (11-0) in a tough 2-set decision, 4-6, 6-7(7-1).
Duarte Vale finished off the match with a 3-set win on court 6 to finalize the match, 5-2.
The Gators improve to 40-20 over the Bulldogs and remain undefeated in conference play. In the 2019 SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, Florida was selected to win the conference. Mississippi State was chosen to finish second, only four points behind the Gators.
Up next, Florida will host the defending National Champions and No. 2 Wake Forest on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Gators upset the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem, N.C. last season, 4-3.
