Tuscaloosa, Ala. – In its 17
th-consecutive match against top-50 opponents, Florida blanked the Crimson Tide on Friday night at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
The Gators improved to 10-0 in the SEC with the 7-0 victory. This start is Florida's best since beginning the 2005 conference season 11-0 en route to its regular season SEC Championship.
Riding an 11-match winning streak, but struggling to earn the doubles point in several matches, Florida made a change in the pairings. And it worked.
Oliver Crawford and
Alfredo Perez teamed up for a quick 6-1 victory on court 2.
McClain Kessler and
Johannes Ingildsen dropped their match on court 1, 6-3. But
Duarte Vale and
Sam Riffice gave the Gators the early advantage with a 6-3 win on court 3.
There were no surprises in singles, however, as the Gators took five of the opening sets.
In two sets, Vale cruised to his 9
th-straight win and improved to 8-0 in the SEC. Ingildsen put Florida up 3-0 with his 2-set decision on court 2.
On court 6, Perez rallied from an early first set deficit to earn the clinching two-set win. The senior earned his first clincher of the season and was back in the singles lineup for the first time since March 3.
Lukas Greif and Crawford came out victors in a 10-point tiebreaker on their respective courts and
Andy Andrade completed the sweep with a three-set decision on court three.
Up next, Florida will head for Auburn to take on the Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The Gators need to win at least one of their final two regular season matches to clinch the regular season SEC title.
