GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida men's tennis head coach
Bryan Shelton has announced the promotion of
Tanner Stump to associate head coach.
Â
"We are so fortunate to have such a tremendous staff. Tanner has added so much to strengthening our program over the past two seasons. His tireless efforts as they relate to recruiting and player development have not gone unnoticed by anyone inside or out of our program," Shelton said. "More importantly his character and the example he sets for the young men in our program is exceptional. I look forward to the things we can accomplish moving forward."
Â
Stump, who joined Shelton's coaching staff in 2016, will begin his fourth season with the Gators in 2019-20.
Â
In Stump's three seasons at Florida, he has helped guide the Gators to a 63-24 overall record and three NCAA Tournament appearances, gradually improving their run each season (Sweet 16 in 2017, Elite 8 in 2018 and Final 4 in 2019). The teams have also compiled a 30-6 record in the SEC, including a perfect 12-0 in 2019 and the first SEC Championship for Florida since 2005.Â
Â
Stump's expertise in player development and recruiting has shown, as he has coached six players to a total of 10 All-American honors in three years and has also helped produce top recruiting classes during his stint at Florida. He has also coached Florida athletes to two consecutive SEC Freshman of the Year honors (
Oliver Crawford and
Sam Riffice) and 13 All-SEC accolades over the years.
Â
Prior to joining the Gators, Stump brought in five years of coaching experience, including three NCAA tournament appearances, serving on the coaching staffs at Mississippi State (2014-16), Furman (2013-14), and Middle Tennessee (2011-13).
Â
Stump graduated from Mississippi State University in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in business. Â
