HOUSTON, Texas – While a plethora of Gators concluded this weekend's fall competition,
Oliver Crawford,
Sam Riffice,
Andy Andrade and
Lukas Greif set out for the Texas Tamale Co. Houston Cup, hosted at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice University. The event, running from Sept. 15-22, brings together 100 tennis players from around the world that are ranked between 250 and 800 in the ATP rankings. The tournament features a qualifying draw, which is followed by the main singles and doubles draw, as Greif and Andrade both kicked off qualifying play with first round wins on Sunday.

Oliver Crawford (ATP No. 586) and sophomore
Sam Riffice (ATP No. 557) received direct entry into the main draw, which will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Sophomore
Lukas Greif received a wild card into the event, facing No. 11 seed Abraham Asaba in Sunday's first round of qualifying singles. After dropping the first set to Asaba, 7-5, Greif answered with a 6-4 decision in the second before gutting out a 10-3 third set tiebreaker to knock off Asaba in the first round.

Andy Andrade, slotted a No. 10 seed in the qualifying draw, would meet William Mottet in first round action, dropping Mottet, 6-2, 6-4, in straight sets to advance to the next round.

- Qualifying singles play continues on Monday, Sept. 16. Greif will face the winner of Eduardo Neftali Irizarry/Kyle Overmyer, while Andrade will meet the winner of Dustin Goldenberg/Nikola Samardzic.
