GAINESVILLE, Fla. – With the first two weeks of fall tournaments in the books, the Gators are ready to kick the competition up a notch as they travel to Athens, Ga. for the Southern Intercollegiate Championships starting on Friday, Sept. 27, hosted by Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Gators competing over the weekend include Andy Andrade, Johannes Ingildsen, Josh Goodger, Brian Berdusco, Lukas Greif, Duarte Vale and Blaise Bicknell.
Florida is one of 12 teams that will be competing in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, as 11 of the 12 teams finished the 2019 dual season ranked in the ITA top-50. Other teams competing include Texas (No. 1), Wake Forest (No. 2), Illinois (No. 15), Georgia (No. 21), UCF (No. 31), Miami (No. 36), Harvard (No. 41), Tulane (No. 44), Georgia Tech (No. 45), LSU (No. 48) and Clemson.
Florida will get a glimpse of some future dual season opponents, with UCF, Texas, Illinois, Georgia and LSU part of the field, as the tournament serves as the second team event of the fall after competing at the Seahawk Fall Invite (Sept. 13-15). The Gators have already seen impressive results early on, highlighted by Duarte Vale and Blaise Bicknell's doubles title and Vale's singles title at the Seahawk Invite, while Oliver Crawford and Sam Riffice claimed the doubles crown at last week's Texas Tamale Co. Houston Cup.
This year's event is broken into four 16-player compass draws for singles and two 16-team compass draws for doubles. The action starts on Friday with two rounds of doubles slated to begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by singles in the afternoon.
