Tsveta Dimitrova adds third-straight victory to open season.
NASSAU, the Bahamas – Competing for the final day at the national showcase tournament, the Pink Flamingo Cup hosted by the Baha Mar Resort, the University of Florida women's tennis team squared off with the No. 7 Texas Longhorns in singles and the No. 23 Miami Hurricanes in doubles.
The lone senior on Florida's roster, Tsveta Dimitrova, continued her impressive start to the 2020 slate as she posted her third-straight singles victory. In her second year with the program after transferring in from the University of Houston, Dimitrova won all of her matches at the first-ever Pink Flamingo Cup.
After inclement weather altered the day's original schedule, Florida and Texas played just one-set matches in singles before taking the court against Miami in doubles.
Three of UF's six matches against the Longhorns went to a seventh game. Dimitrova added a 7-5 win over UT's Tijana Spasojevic while sophomore Marlee Zein registered a 7-6 (5) victory over Longhorn freshman Adri Nagy.
No. 96 Victoria Emma and Ida Jarlskog fell against top 50 foes while No. 37 McCartney Kessler and Sydney Berlin were upended in their respective bouts.
After singles play, Florida battled Miami in doubles to conclude the tournament. The Gators fought in their contests but fell by two games apiece in all three. Junior combo McCartney Kessler and Victoria Emma dropped a decision to Daevenia Achon and Estela Perez-Somarriba while Tsveta Dimitrova and Ida Jarlskog came up short against Selma Cadar and Maya Tahan. From the third doubles slot, Sydney Berlin and Marlee Zein were defeated by Nada Dimovska and Yuna Ito.
No. 4 UCLA claimed the tournament title.
The Gators, after completing this weekend's preseason action against some of the nation's top-tier programs, return to the courts the weekend of Jan. 25-26 when they travel to the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Raleigh, N.C.

Overall thoughts on the day of competition…
"We continue to improve competitively but still missed key opportunities. We will address this everyday in practice in the coming weeks. If we can bridge the gap from our level of hitting to how we score, we will make huge jumps."
