
Gators Throwers Finish Strong in Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Florida throwers closed out the two-day the Hokie Invitational at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House Saturday afternoon with a top-10 national mark, a spot in the program's All-Time Top 10 list and a couple of new personal records.
Redshirt junior shot putter Connor Bandel beat his personal record by 16 centimeters Saturday after throwing for 19.45 meters (63 feet, 9.75 inches). Bandel's new personal best ranks 10th in Division I and third in school history.
Senior Amara Wiggan, who opened the competition for the Gators on Friday, topped her personal record by 85 centimeters in the weight throw after posting a mark of 20.06 meters (65 feet, 9.75 inches). The senior missed a spot in the program's All-time Top 10 list by just 10 centimeters.
Freshman shot putter Thea Jensen closed for the Gators Saturday afternoon with a 15.22 meters (49 feet, 11.25 inches) mark. Jensen's performance at the Hokie Invitational was her second collegiate appearance.
The Gators will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., next week for this year's Razorback Invitational.
