
Gators Conclude Play at ITA Southeast Regionals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators men's tennis team concluded play at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament on Sunday, Oct. 24 and picked up 20 total wins in the process.
Graduate Mattias Siimar won two matches on the fourth day of regionals in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the singles consolation draw. His quarterfinals match against Miami's Benjamin Hannestad finished in two sets, 6-4, 6-3, while his semifinals match was also a straight-set victory over Roberts Grinvalds of Georgia State, 6-4, 6-1. Through the consolation draw, Siimar also put together a perfect 8-0 sets record, while tallying seven total wins in the tournament.
Senior Josh Goodger also claimed a win in the consolation draw. His quarterfinals match against SEC-foe and ITA No.23-ranked player, Hamish Stewart of Georgia, was a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-4. Goodger's semifinals match was a battle as he went into a super tiebreak with Dong before dropping the match, 6-2, 4-6, 5-10. The Gator collected five total wins in the tournament with three coming in singles and two in doubles.
Bonetto put together a 3-1 singles record as he was the lone Gator to advance to the quarterfinals of the main draw. In his impressive tournament run, the freshman defeated two ranked and seeded opponents before falling in the quarterfinals to No. 14-seed Trey Hilderbrand (UCF) in a hard-fought match, 7-5, 7-5.
In the first round of the main draw, Bonetto overtook ITA No. 26/No. 4-seed Marcus McDaniel of Georgia Tech in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 7-5, before eliminating his second ranked opponent, ITA No. 122/No. 11-seed Blake Croyder of Georgia, 7-6 (3), 6-2, in the Round of 16. The Gator improved his fall singles record to 10-3 and now ranks second on the team in singles wins behind Ben Shelton (11).
In doubles, the Gators had a team competing in the semifinals of the tournament. Both Andy Andrade and Siimar took on the No. 1-seeded pair/ITA No. 8 duo, Marcus McDaniel and Andres Martin of Georgia Tech, and brought them to a super tiebreak. Georgia Tech claimed the first set, 6-1, but the Gators fought back and won the second set by a score of 6-3. The Yellow Jackets would go on and defeat Florida with a 10-4 super tiebreak.
