
Florida Sweeps Singles, Doubles Titles at Bedford Cup

TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida Gators women's tennis team had a strong showing at the Bedford Cup this weekend as doubles pair Emma Shelton and Bente Spee won the doubles title and freshman Alicia Dudeney snagged the singles title on the final day of the tournament.
The Gators totaled an impressive 19 wins at the Bedford Cup, including 13 singles victories. The team swept the doubles and singles competition as three Gators won the trophies.
No. 1-seeded doubles duo Shelton and Spee were able to take care of business in the finals after pulling out a tough win over FIU's Ines Bakrar and Yasmine Kabbaj, 8-6, to claim the title.
No. 84 Shelton also made a singles finals appearance and was paired against teammate and No. 2-seed, Dudeney, for an all-Gators final. In an exciting match, the freshman collected her first ranked singles victory and second ranked win of the season as Dudeney defeated Shelton, 6-4, 6-1, to claim her first tournament title of the season.
Spee went undefeated on the final day of the Bedford Cup as she tallied a win over No. 4-seed Nandini Sharma of UCF in a close battle, 2-6, 6-2, 10-3. Sydney Berlin added another win for Florida after beating UCF's Jaleesa Leslie, 7-5, 6-4.
UP NEXT: Gators Carly Briggs and Marlee Zein will compete in the qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships starting tomorrow, October 4.
