Shelbayh, Siimar Solidify Spot in Doubles Main Draw with Three Wins in Qualifying

The Gators join Andy Andrade and Ben Shelton in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships.
TULSA, Okla. – Mattias Siimar and Abedallah Shelbayh continue to roll in doubles competition as the No. 57-ranked duo won three qualifying matches to advance through to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships.

Siimar won a total of four matches in the qualifying rounds at the tournament, the most of any Gator, while freshman Nate Bonetto added two more victories for Florida during the pre-qualifying singles round.

Bonetto's two wins came against UNLV's Thomas Navarro and Jonah Wilson of Arizona State. He defeated Navarro in the first round by a decisive score of 6-2, 6-0, and then overtook Wilson in three sets, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-3.

During qualifying, No. 103-ranked player Siimar won four matches – three doubles and one singles match. He won his first-round singles match against No. 66 Joao Ceolin of UTSA in a tough battle, 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Then, the No. 57-ranked duo of Siimar and Shelbayh plowed their way through qualifying to secure a spot in the doubles main draw after claiming three victories.

Siimar and Shelbayh's first-round match was against Northern Arizona's Facundo Tumosa and Eban Straker-Meads, where the Gators pulled out the win, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-8.

The pairings next matchup was against SEC-foes Simon Junk and Nikola Slavic of Ole Miss as they overpowered the duo, 6-3, 6-4.

Finally, the Gators solidified a spot in the doubles main draw after defeating Arizona's Carlos Hassey and Colton Smith in an exciting match, 4-6, 6-2, 14-12.

UP NEXT: Siimar and Shelbayh will join Andy Andrade and Ben Shelton in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships beginning tomorrow, October 6. No. 14 Andrade and No. 86 Shelton will compete in singles, while the duo will be the sole Gators in the doubles main draw.
