
Shelton Earns Spot in Semifinals; Andrade Wins in Consolation Round of 16 at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – After beating four ranked opponents and not losing a set, sophomore Ben Shelton is poised to make a semifinals appearance at the ITA All-American Championships tomorrow, Oct. 9. Senior Andy Andrade also claimed another victory in the consolation draw on Friday with a double bagel against his opponent in the Round of 16.
Shelton defeated his third SEC opponent in a row after winning his Round of 16 match against LSU's No. 24-player, Ronnie Hohmann. The Gator previously competed against No. 29 Martim Prata of Tennessee in the Round of 64 and No. 3 Daniel Rodrigues of South Carolina in the Round of 32.
In his first match on Friday, Shelton took down Hohmann in just two sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance into the quarterfinals.
Shelton's quarterfinals match was a battle from start to finish as he downed his fourth ranked opponent in a row, No. 99 JJ Tracy of Ohio State, in two sets. Shelton claimed the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7). He was down 5-4 in the second set, but came back after winning three games in a row to advance to the semifinals with a 7-6 (7), 7-5, victory over Tracy.
Before his quarterfinals match, Shelton only gave up 14 games in just three matches and has yet to lose a set in the tournament.
No. 14 Andrade collected his second win in the consolation draw earlier today after a dominating win over Pepperdine's Eric Hadigian in the Round of 16. The senior put together a double bagel en route to a victory over his opponent, 6-0, 6-0.
UP NEXT: Shelton is the sole Gator left in the tournament and will face No. 72 Clement Chidekh tomorrow in the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships.
