Gators XC Travels to Alabama for Regionals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators men's and women's cross country teams are taking a trip to Huntsville, Ala., for the NCAA South Regional Championships at John Hunt Park hosted by the University of North Alabama. The women are running a 6k race starting at 9:30 a.m., while the men will compete in their first 10k race of the season at 10:30 a.m.
The teams are coming off the SEC Championships race where the women placed sixth and the men placed seventh. On the women's side, freshman Parker Valby was the top finisher after posting a new 6k PR of 20:11.8 to place fourth overall. Valby, who led through the first 4,000m of the race, was named First Team All-SEC. She also joined freshman Stephanie Ormsby on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
On the men's side, Ethan Geiger led the Gators for the third meet of the season after finishing 40th with an 8k time of 24:49.9. Two Gators - Joe Wester and Michael Fiore - were also named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after placing 44th and 47th, respectively.
In the USTFCCCA regional rankings, the women's team is up one spot to No. 6 and the men's squad stayed steady at No. 9 after SECs. Both teams will face a lot of conference competition during the regional meet – including Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Georgia.
