Wednesday, March 24, 2021 | Track and Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida track and field teams are back in action this week as they head to Tallahassee to open this year's outdoor season at the FSU Relays Thursday and Friday. The meet will be the first outdoors event for the Gators since 2019.
The jumpers will get things started for the Gators Thursday evening.
Indoor school record holder Claire Bryant will headline the long jump as she opens her outdoor collegiate career. The freshman, who finished second at NCAA Indoors, will be joined by redshirt freshman Alexis Brown, fellow newcomer Alissa Braxton and redshirt senior Kala Penn.
The Gators will also be represented in the men's and women's shot put during day one as SEC indoors bronze medalists Thea Jensen and Connor Bandel will step into the circle Thursday.
On Friday, senior Clayton Brown will make his 2021 season debut as he will represent the Gators in the triple jump. The St. Andrew, Jamaica native was crowned SEC indoors champion in the triple jump in 2020, in addition to winning silver in the high jump.
Out on the track, SEC indoor champion Talitha Diggs will kick off her outdoors collegiate career with a run in the 100 meters. On the men's side, 200 meters SEC silver medalist Joseph Fahnbulleh will represent the Gators in that event alongside Dedrick Vanover and Chantz Sawyers.
On the distance side, the Gators will compete in the 800 and 1,500 meters. Freshman Vasileia Spyrou, who finished among the top 20 in the 6k race during the 2020 SEC Cross Country Championships, will see action in both in events. She will be joined by Emily Culley in the 800 meters and by Stephy Ormsby, Maria Fernandez and Emily Jones in the 1,500.
