7 Gators Advance To The Finals On Night Two Of the Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kieran Smith and Robert Finke got the Gators going on day two of the 2021 NCAA Championships in Greensboro, N.C. as both qualified for the A-final in the 500 free.
Smith was first in his heat and third in the overall prelims in the 500 free with a time of 4:11.03. Behind Smith was Finke who went 4:12.37 to place third in his heat and eight overall. With that time from Finke, he moves up to number fifth on the UF all-time best list as he dropped a full second off of his qualifying time.
Trey Freeman went 4:12.61 in the 500 free to place fifth in his heat and tenth overall as he grabs a spot in the B-final. Also, in the B-final, Alfonso Mestre went 4:14.10 to place sixth in his heat and 16th overall in the prelims.
To cap off the 500 free, Tyler Watson finished sixth in his heat and 26th overall with a time of 4:15.88, a seasons best time for Watson. Brennan Gravley went 4:20.93 to place fourth in his heat and was 42nd overall.
In the 200 IM, Dillon Hillis was the top finisher for the Gators as he went 1:43.00, a season best time, to place fifth in his heat and 14th overall to make the B-final later tonight.
Clark Beach was the next finisher for the Gators as he went 1:46.01 to placed seventh in his heat and 41st overall. Kevin Vargas went 1:46.37 to place fifth in his heat and 45th overall in the 200 IM prelims.
Adam Chaney finishes first in his heat and fourth overall in the 50 free prelims with a time of 18.98 to make the A-final later tonight. In the B-final later tonight
we will have Eric Friese as he placed second in his heat and 10th overall. Will Davis went out in 19.82 to place eighth in his heat and 40th overall.
