STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 24 University of Florida women's tennis team (9-6, 7-3) completed an undefeated two-match road swing with a 4-1 victory at No. 36 Mississippi State Saturday afternoon.

Winning for the fourth-straight match, the Gators again turned in an impressive performance in doubles and kept their momentum going in singles. Improving to 7-1 when winning the doubles point, UF impressed in both facets of the game, claiming wins on three of the first four singles courts. No. 11 McCartney Kessler, No. 120 Layne Sleeth and Sydney Berlin all registered victories in the contest.

Sleeth provided the match-clinching victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court four to seal it. Off the heels of their victory at No. 21 Ole Miss Thursday night, the Gators broke through for their seventh SEC win. Taking on their 11th nationally-ranked opponent this season and eighth-straight, the battle-tested Gators continued their strong performance in the stretch run of the 2021 campaign.

Florida jumped out to 2-1 leads on all three courts to begin the day in doubles. UF's third court pairing opened the scoring with a 6-2 win as Berlin and Sara Dahlstrom cruised to a 6-2 victory over Chloé Cirotte and Alexandra Mikhailuk. A few minutes later, Sleeth and Ida Jarlskog contributed the decisive win on court two where they ousted Emma Antonaki and Marta Falceto, 6-3 to equip the Gators with their fourth-straight doubles point conversion. For the second time on the road trip, No. 2 Kessler and Marlee Zein saw their contest go unfinished at 5-3.

The Gators raced out to early leads in singles as well and it was Florida's top competitor Kessler, who added the first win. No. 11 Kessler improved her record to 10-2 in dual match play after defeating Tamara Racine, 6-1, 6-1, collecting her fourth-consecutive victory.

The nationally-ranked Bulldogs trimmed the gap to 2-1 when No. 19 Emma Antonaki collected a win in straight sets over No. 47 Zein.

Berlin, extending her record 13-5 overall this season, notched a 6-2, 6-4 victory from court six to put the Gators ahead 3-1. After claiming her opening set 6-2, Sleeth overcame 3-1 deficit in the second frame to push the Gators to an impressive league win away from home.

Jarlskog and Dahlstrom both saw their singles matches go unfinished.

The Gators improved to 40-1 all-time against Mississippi State with Saturday's win.

UP NEXT: The Gators return to match play Thursday, April 1 when they host Kentucky. UF's home finale will be played Saturday April 3 against Vanderbilt.

Quotes from the Court
Head Coach Roland Thornqvist
Overall thoughts on the match…
"Doubles continue to be a strong point and our confidence extended into early leads in singles. McCartney (Kessler) was outstanding this weekend and off the court first both days. Overall, I'm pleased with our attitudes. Everyone is always looking to progress, not to be perfect."
