
No. 1 Florida Plays No. 16 Illinois on Monday in NCAA Tourney Round of 16

Gators take on Fighting Illini in Orlando in tough matchup
ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 1-seeded Florida (22-2) will play No. 16-seeded Illinois (23-2) on Monday at 7 p.m. ET at the USTA National Campus in the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
The Fighting Illini were crowned the Big Ten Champions, going 15-1 in conference play and winning the Big Ten Tournament title, while the Gators used an undefeated, 12-0, Southeastern Conference record to become the SEC Champions.
UF defeated South Alabama, 4-0, and South Florida, 4-1, in the first and second rounds to earn a spot in the Round of 16. Illinois downed DePaul, 4-1, and Notre Dame, 4-0, to make its way to Orlando.
In the last time Florida and the Fighting Illini squared off, the Gators won by a score of 7-0 in February of 2020 in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. Despite that victory, the Illinois holds an 11-10 record in the series.
UF has made the Round of 16 for the fifth-straight NCAA Tournament, currently holding a 3-1 record in those contests. Most recently, Florida defeated Tennessee, 4-2, in 2019 in the Round of 16.
