Rookie from Sweden represents women’s tennis program on conference academic honors list.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Southeastern Conference released its First‐Year SEC Academic Honor Roll selections for the 2020-21 season Tuesday morning and University of Florida women's tennis freshman Sara Dahlstrom earned a spot on the list after achieving academic success in her debut campaign.
The First‐Year SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2020‐21 academic calendar.
The rookie from Sweden becomes the sixth Florida women's tennis player to garner an SEC academic accolade this season after five of her teammates collected Academic Honor Roll designations last week.
In addition to her academic prowess, Dahlstrom earned praise for her success on the courts with an SEC All-Freshman team nod. Competing primarily at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, Dahlstrom appeared in the ITA singles rankings twice, rising to as high as No. 111 in late March. The hard-hitting right hander added Florida's match-clinching win over Arkansas and was named SEC Freshman of the Week on March 17.
Tuesday's announcement brings UF's total of student-athletes named to a 2020-21 SEC Academic Honor Roll to a program-record 378, which is 70 percent of UF's student-athletes. Florida placed 301 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (107 on fall list; 62 winter, 132 on spring) and 77 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
The Florida women's tennis program qualified for its 33rd-straight NCAA Tennis Championships in 2021 and hosted the tournament's first and second rounds for the 20th time in a possible 21 chances since the field expanded to 64 in 1999. The Gators have claimed seven NCAA National Championships, the second-most in the history of the sport.
