
Andrade Defeats No. 16-Ranked Thomson on Final Day of Gator Fall Invite

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Gators men's tennis team capped off the Gator Fall Invite on Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex by tallying six wins on the day against a tough South Carolina squad.
Over three days, the Gators collected a 25-8 record while graduate Mattias Siimar went undefeated (5-0) and added on two ranked-doubles wins with doubles partner Abedallah Shelbayh in his Florida debut.
The Gators took two of three doubles matches on the day. Ben Shelton and Siimar paired up for the first time this weekend and defeated Jake Beasley and Connor Thomson, 8-5. Andy Andrade and Nate Bonetto, who were also paired together for the first time, went on to beat Carter Morgan and Beau Pelletier in demanding fashion, 8-2. On court two, James Story and Raphael Lambling, who are both ranked in the top-60 of singles players, took the match from Josh Goodger and Will Grant, 3-8.
Both teams battled throughout singles play, as half of the first sets went into tiebreaks and half the matches were won in three sets. The Gators picked up four of the six singles wins against SEC-foe South Carolina.
No. 14 Andrade took his match against No. 16 Thomson in two sets by scores of 6-4. No. 86 Shelton collected his first ranked-singles win of the fall season after beating No. 56 Story in two tiebreak sets, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). Grant battled Beasley, and in three sets, won the match by scores of 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3. No. 111 Lukas Greif made his fall singles debut and defeated Morgan in three sets, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3. No. 59 Goodger would drop a tough match to No. 39 Lambling, 5-7, 6-4, 2-6, while Bonetto also fell in a close battle to Pelletier, 5-7, 6-2, 3-6.
