Briggs Goes Undefeated on Day One of Fall Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida Gators women's tennis team opened their season with six wins at the Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted by North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 24. Junior Carly Briggs went undefeated on the day, posting a couple wins in singles and another in doubles.
The Gators began the tournament with a doubles win from Alicia Dudeney and Briggs. The pairing took it to SEC-foes Adeline Flach and Yu Chen of Auburn, as they won their first doubles match by a score of 6-2 to move on in the draw.
In addition to winning her doubles match, No. 41 Briggs only needed two sets to overtake her opponents in singles play. She defeated both Kacie Harvey of North Carolina and Mariana Velasquez of Kansas by scores of 6-0, 6-3.
Dudeney also collected two wins on the day as she won her doubles match and added another singles victory. The freshman dominated Sofia Cabezas from Iowa State, 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Marlee Zein posted a tough victory over Raffaela Alhach of William & Mary, 6-3, 7-6 (4), while senior Sydney Berlin collected Florida's only ranked win of the day as she defeated No. 91 Miska Kadleckova from Iowa State in straight-sets, 6-3, 7-5.
The Gators begin day two of the Kitty Harrison Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m.
