
Shelton Awarded Dale Junta Honor, Wins Crimson Chowderfest with Undefeated Singles Record

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Ben Shelton was the Dale Junta winner of the Crimson Chowderfest in singles after his undefeated record on the weekend as the Gators finished with 10 wins on the final day of the tournament.
Florida totaled an impressive 23 victories (17 singles, six doubles), including seven singles wins and three doubles wins on Sunday, Sept. 26 against players from host university, Harvard. Three Gators put together undefeated singles records over the weekend as Nate Bonetto, Abedallah Shelbayh and Shelton all went 3-0.
Starting with doubles, the No. 57-ranked team of Mattias Siimar and Shelbayh claimed their second victory this weekend with a win over Harris Walker and Henry Von der Schulenburg, 6-3. Andy Andrade and Duarte Vale paired up to defeat Brian Shi and Daniel Milavsky, 6-4, while the Bonetto/Shelton duo earned their second win of the tournament with a victory over Ronan Jachuck and Steven Sun, 6-3.
Shelton was named the Dale Junta winner of the Chowderfest after beating No. 106 player and runner-up, Von der Schulenburg, in three tough sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. No. 4 Vale went toe-to-toe with Walker as he won, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8). Harvard's Shi and No. 14 Andrade took their match to three sets as Andrade pulled out the win with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8).
Shelbayh, Bonetto, Siimar and Goodger all needed just two sets to win their singles matches. The Jordan native defeated Jachuck, 6-4, 7-6 (3), to stay undefeated in singles over the weekend. Bonetto was able to overtake David Lins by scores of 6-3 in his match to keep his 3-0 singles record intact. No. 103 Siimar easily won his match against David Arkow with a 6-2 first set score and a bagel in the second set, 6-0. No. 59 Goodger also overpowered his opponent, Bo Leschley, by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 and helped the Gators to seven singles victories on the day.
Up next, Florida will head to Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American Championships on Oct. 2 through Oct. 10.
