
Gators Unanimous No. 1 in ITA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The defending national champion Florida Gators men's tennis team ended their 2021 season at the top… Now the team is beginning their 2022 season in the same spot as they are the unanimous No. 1 team with 12 first-place votes in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings Division I Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, announced by the organization on Wednesday morning.
The team is coming off a dominant fall season, compiling 68 singles wins and 23 doubles victories. Five Gators were ranked in the end of the year singles rankings, while four doubles teams were ranked as well.
Finding themselves in the singles rankings were Ben Shelton (2), Mattias Siimar (61), Nate Bonetto (79), Andy Andrade (107) and Josh Goodger (111).
In doubles, both Siimar and Andrade were ranked twice as Siimar and Abedallah Shelbayh were at No. 14, Andrade and Duarte Vale were tied for No. 39 and Andrade and Siimar claimed No. 51. Rounding out the doubles teams were Bonetto and Lukas Greif at No. 55.
The Gators are playing a myriad of ranked opponents in the 2022 spring season as 11 teams are in the Top 25, including seven from the SEC.
Florida's first matches of the spring are in the Lone Star State against the TCU Horned Frogs on Jan. 14 and the Texas Longhorns on Jan. 16. Both teams are ranked No. 5 and No. 3, respectively.
