Gators Head to Tyson Invitational for Final Meet Before Postseason
Wednesday, February 9, 2022 | Track and Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - After having last weekend off, the No. 1-ranked Women's Track and Field team and the No. 9-ranked Men's Track and Field team will compete at the Tyson Invitational this weekend on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
The always competitive field at the Tyson Invitational will pit the likes of LSU, Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee and Arkansas against the Gators. This will be the final full tune-up for Florida before the SEC Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas at the end of the month.
The Gators will travel 43 athletes to the Tyson Invite while also taking 15 to the Music City Challenge in Nashville.
Florida will take nearly all of their sprinters and jumpers to Arkansas in search of NCAA qualifying marks. The Gators currently have five top-16 NCAA marks on the men's side and 14 on the women's sides. Both 4x400 relay teams are in the top five in the national descending order list and the women's DMR team has the third-best mark in the nation.
The men will have a heavy amount of entries in both the 200 meters and 400 meters. Champion Allison will race in his first 400 meters as a Gator. Jacory Patterson and Ryan Willie currently hold top-10 marks in the NCAA this year and will look to improve on those.
Jacob Miley will look to carry over his personal best-performance at the Bob Pollock Meet into this weekend where he will run the 400 meters and run on Florida's NCAA-leading 4x400 team.
Talitha Diggs and Taylor Manson will spend the weekend in the 200 meters before heading back to run in the 4x400 relay.
Grace Stark makes a return to the 60-meter hurdles where she's the NCAA co-leader. Stark has broken school records in the hurdles and 60 meters in the first two weekends of competition this season.
After breaking the NCAA and School records in the Triple Jump the last time out, Jasmine Moore will test her talents in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump this weekend. Claire Bryant will also enter in two events when she takes part in the Long Jump and High Jump.
Gabrielle Wilkinson will make her season debut this weekend when she takes part in the 800 meters.
Instead of a pentathlon this weekend, Sterling Lester, Anna Hall and Asia Smith will all enter multiple events and run the 4x400 relay.
A full contingent of Long Jumpers and Triple Jumpers will make the trip on the men's side. Both Jonathan Miller and Malcolm Clemons will make a return to action.
At the Music City Challenge, members of the men's team will compete in the 800 Meters, Mile, 3000 Meters and 5000 Meters.
Members of the women's team will enter into the Shot Put, Mile, 3000 Meters and 5000 Meters.
Action for Florida at the Tyson Invitational will start on Friday at 2:15 p.m. CST with Hall, Lester and Smith in the Long Jump. On Saturday, Bryant and Smith will kick things off in the high jump.
