
Lester, Moore Claim Gold Medals, Florida Sends 11 More to Saturday’s Finals

OXFORD, Miss. – Sterling Lester and Jasmine Moore claimed SEC Gold on Friday night in a day that featured a six-hour rain delay and four podium finishes for the Gators.
Florida's women put 32 points on the board during Friday's affairs including 20 in the Long Jump, 10 from Lester in the Heptathlon and two from Thea Jensen in the Shot Put.
The Gators' trio of athletes in the Long Jump went 1-3-5 late Friday night with Moore capturing her third conference in three tries so far this season.
She set her winning mark on her first attempt of the night with a jump of 6.73m/22-1 to secure her first SEC Outdoor Championship in the Long Jump.
Moore will go for the season sweep of the horizontal jumps at the SEC level when she contests the Triple Jump on Saturday afternoon.
She would become just the second woman in conference history (Florida's Shara Proctor in 2010) to sweep the SEC titles in the horizontal jumps in the indoor and outdoor season during a single calendar year.
Claire Bryant claimed bronze in the Long Jump with a mark of 6.56m/21-6.25. She also won the bronze medal during the indoor season.
Anna Hall continued her busy weekend by scoring fifth place and four team points in the Long Jump with a new wind-legal personal best of 6.42m/21-0.75.
Lester grabbed Florida's other gold medal of the night, running away with the Heptathlon on the second day of competition.
She tallied a total of 5749 across the seven events, a personal best and the No. 7 mark in the NCAA this season.
Her victory means the Gators struck gold in both the Indoor Pentathlon (Hall) and Outdoor Heptathlon at the conference level this season.
Jensen grabbed a pair of valuable points in the Shot Put when she threw 16.30m/53-5.75 on her fifth attempt.
She was consistent across her final four attempts, putting up marks of 16.24m/53-3.5, 16.18m/53-1, 16.30m/53-5.75 and 16.26m/53-4.25.
Jensen will be back to throw the discus tomorrow morning.
Florida's women will have entries in 12 of the 13 finals tomorrow evening including doubles from Imogen Barrett (800m/1500m), Talitha Diggs (200m/400m) and Grace Stark (100m/100mH).
The Gators tallied 12 more points on the men's side behind a trio of athletes in the Long Jump.
Malcolm Clemons paced Florida with a podium finish and bronze medal behind a wind-legal personal best jump of 7.84m/25-8.75.
Caleb Foster, fifth at 7.68m/25-2.5, and PJ Austin, seventh at 7.52m/24-8.25, helped push Florida into a tie for seventh on the men's side heading into Saturday.
Champion Allison, Jacory Patterson and Ryan Willie will spearhead the 400-meter final tomorrow night after running qualifying times on Friday night.
Matthew Mule' (1500m), Caleb Foster (110mH) and Dedrick Vanover (100m) were additional qualifiers to Florida's list of entries on Saturday.
Florida will have 19-scoring opportunities on the women's side including three in the Triple Jump and 5000 meters and a pair in the 800 meters and 400-meter hurdles.
The men will see 15 point-scoring opportunities including three in the 400 meters and a pair in the 5000 meters and Triple Jump.
The women continue to find themselves in the thick of the team race heading into the final day. Florida will contest 12 of the 13 events tomorrow and are projected to score in 10 of them.
Action tomorrow begins with Jensen in the Discus (12:30 PM CT) before Moore, Natricia Hooper and Alissa Braxton hit the runway in the Triple Jump.
Edward Shelikoff will begin the day for the men in the Discus (2:45 PM CT).
