
Florida Set to Host Tom Jones Memorial This Weekend

39 teams come to Gainesville to take part in the Tom Jones Memorial
GAINESVILLE, Fla.. – On Friday, the Florida Gators Track and Field host their final two home meet of the 2023 season as the Tom Jones Memorial begins. This year the Tom Jones Memorial features 40 teams, including the Florida Gators. Florida will have 66 athletes compete in 35 total events.
On the men's side, ten of the visiting teams enter Gainesville in the top-25 with three in the top-5, while in the women's competition nine teams are ranked in the top-25 with four positioned in the top-10 in the most recent rankings.
Florida will honor 26 seniors during the final home meet of the season with ceremonies on both Friday and Saturday. Thirteen student athletes will be recognized each day, with Friday's recognitions beginning at 4 p.m. and Saturday's recognitions beginning at 11 a.m.
At the Pepsi Florida Relays, the most recent meet of the outdoor season, the Gators captured ten event titles. Friday, Sean Dixon-Bodie and Claire Bryant won the men's (8.00m/26'3") and women's long jump invite (6.56m/21'6.25"), Robert Gregory (20.31) and Talitha Diggs (22.61) swept the men's and women's 200m events, and the 4x800 relay team captured gold (7:23.80). On Saturday, Alida van Daalen won the women's shot put invite (17.94m/58'10.25"), Pjai Austin (10.10) and Talitha Diggs (10.92) swept the 100m races, and both the men's 4x400 (3:02.01) and women's 4x100 teams (43.37) secured event titles.
So far in the 2023 outdoor season, the Gators have recorded 28 new outdoor or overall personal bests. Nineteen of these career performances have come on the track, and nine were in the field.
TOM JONES MEMORIAL MEET INFORMATION (all times Eastern)
Florida will be honoring 26 seniors at the Tom Jones Memorial. Friday 13 seniors will be recognized beginning at 4 p.m. and on Saturday the remaining 13 seniors will be recognized starting at 11 a.m.
On Friday, the Gators will participate in 16 different events, starting with the women's long jump trio of Claire Bryant, Sterling Lester, and Jasmine Moore at 2 p.m. The Gators begin running events at 5 p.m. with the women's 200m.
Florida will compete in 19 events on day two of the competition, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with Akari Isaac, Thea Jensen, and Da'Moni Kelly competing in the women's discus competition. At noon, running event start with the women's 100m hurdles prelims followed by the men's 110m hurdles prelims.
