Briggs and Dahlstrom begin their journey in the singles draw on Monday, May 22, while Dudeney/Spee start in the round of 32 in doubles on Tuesday, May 23.
ORLANDO, Fla. – The NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships are set to start on Monday, May 22 with Sara Dahlstrom and Carly Briggs representing UF in singles action, while Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee will begin doubles competition on Tuesday, May 23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Kicking off competition for the Gators will be Briggs at 9 a.m. ET against No. 30 ranked Sydni Ratliff of Ohio State in the first round. Earning an at-large selection, No. 46-ranked Briggs recorded a 10-10 singles record in duals and is 18-14 overall this season. When matching up with ranked opponents, Briggs has earned five singles victories, all against top-85 opponents. The Second Team All-SEC selection has been ranked as high as No. 38 this season and has earned wins over three members of the draw: No. 40 Florencia Urruita (Kentucky), No. 16 Janice Tjen (Pepperdine) and No. 41 Carolina Gomez Alonso (Arkansas).
In the first round, Dahlstrom takes on No. 1 seed Fiona Crawley from UNC at 11 a.m. ET. The native of Sweden, who also earned an at-large selection, has proven to be one of the best singles players in the country. The junior took over the top singles spot for the Gators on March 17 and produced an 8-4 record with all eight victories coming against ranked-opponents. Overall, the First Team All-SEC honoree is 17-7 with 11 ranked-wins and has played 15 matches against opponents in the singles draw.
On Tuesday at a time to be announced, Dudeney/Spee meet No. 43 ranked Adel-Byanu Abidullina/Eliza Askarova from Delaware in the round of 32. Exclusively playing at the top doubles position, Dudeney/Spee led the team with a 12-3 record in duals. Dudeney/Spee took over Florida's No. 1 spot doubles spot on March 3 and went 7-2 in the SEC with three top-35 ranked wins. With an overall record of 14-4, the two sophomores have met four duos in the draw and their highest ranked-victory came against No. 3 Jaedan Brown/Kari Miller from Michigan.
The Gators have produced four NCAA Singles Champions (1988, 1992, 1993 and 1996) and five NCAA Doubles Champions (1991, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2016).
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
