Tuesday, May 23, 2023 | Track and Field
The Gators will have 14 men and 20 women compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators Track & Field team heads to Jacksonville, Florida for the NCAA East Preliminaries, beginning on Wednesday.
The NCAA East Preliminaries Meet serves as the qualifying meet for the Gators for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
In both the East and West regions, the top 48 athletes in every individual event (excluding the multis) and the top 24 relay teams in each relay event will compete. The top-12 athletes and relays in each event in each region will make up a field of 24 in every event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The heptathlon is not contested at the NCAA Preliminaries and since Sterling Lester is seeded thirteenth nationally, she has already qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
This is Florida's second trip to Jacksonville this season, having competed in the East Coast Relays two weeks ago.
NCAA EAST PRELIMINARIES MEET INFORMATION (all times Eastern)
The NCAA East Preliminaries take place over four days. Day one features the men's team beginning with the men's shot put and long jump competitions that will send the top 12 competitors through to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Day two features the women's team where the top 12 competitors in shot put and long jump will also advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The women will also compete in the first round of individual running events.
