
Moore, Sargent and Valby Land Spots in Event Finals

EUGENE, Ore. – On the opening day of the United States Track & Field Olympic Trials, Jasmine Moore, Abraham Sargent and Parker Valby were the three Gators to secure spots in their respective event finals following Friday's competition in Eugene, Ore.
Other Gators that competed during Friday's evening session include Talitha Diggs, Taylor Manson, Jenoah McKiver, Jacory Patterson, Rios Prude Jr., and Ryan Willie.
HOW IT HAPPENED – First Rounds
Men's 400m
Racing in the first round of the 400m, current Gator Jenoah McKiver and Gator Great Jacory Patterson advanced to Sunday's semifinal. McKiver, competing in heat one, ran a season-best time of 45.26 to earn an auto-qualifying spot. One heat later, Jacory Patterson ran a time of 45.46 making him one of two time qualifiers in Sunday's competition.
These two will continue through the rounds on Sunday at 9:35 p.m. ET.
Rios Prude Jr. and Ryan Willie concluded their first seasons as a collegiate and professional athlete, respectively, with finishes of 46.09 and 46.59 in Friday's 400m.
Women's 400m
The 2022 U.S. Outdoor Track & Field Champion in the 400m, Talitha Diggs, cruised to a semifinal bid in 2024. With the top five in each heat automatically advancing, Diggs recorded a third-place finish with a time of 51.57.

Taylor Manson recorded a finish of 53.49 in as she made her fourth consecutive appearance at U.S. National Championships/Olympic Trials.
Men's Javelin
Abraham Sargent was the first Gator to secure a spot in a U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials final. The Pell City, Alabama native recorded a best throw of 71.45m/234'5" on his first attempt in the Javelin competition. This stood as the sixth-best throw in the competition.
The SEC Championships silver medalist and NCAA Qualifier will participate in the finals on Sunday at 9:40 p.m. ET.
Women's 5000m
Leading for the majority of the race, Parker Valby was able to safely obtain an auto-qualifying finish in the first round of the 5000m as ended heat one in third place. The six-time NCAA Champion finished with the third-best time in the field as she crossed the finish line in 15:17.56
Valby will appear in the finals of the 5000m Monday at 10:09 p.m. ET.
Women's Triple Jump
Jasmine Moore, the final Gator to compete in Friday's action, captured the top spot in the Triple Jump final, an event in which she totaled four NCAA Individual Championships. Her best leap landed at 14.03m/46'0.5".
Moore will appear in said finals on Saturday at 9:20 p.m. ET.

Day two of the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials will take place on Saturday, June 22 in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field. While 2024 Paris Olympic roster spots will be finalized in the Women's Triple Jump, Gators will look to advance to the next round in the Men's Long Jump, Men's 100m and Women's 400m.
