Women's Basketball Travels to Cayman Islands for Pair of Thanksgiving Weekend Contests

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands. — The Florida Women's Basketball team remains on the road this week as the Gators travel to the Cayman Islands for a two-game Thanksgiving weekend tournament. Florida takes on Memphis on Friday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. EST, and Georgia Tech on Saturday, November 29 at 5 p.m.
Florida is 6-1 on the season, and 6-2 in Thanksgiving week tournament games during the Kelly Rae Finley era (2021-present). The Gators picked up their first road win of the season, Monday, with a 59-51 victory at Florida Atlantic. Florida was without the services of leading scorer Liv McGill, but freshman forward Caterina Piatti recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and junior guard Laila Reynolds scored a game-high 17 points.
McGill ranks third in the nation in scoring (26.0 ppg) and steals (4.80 spg), and 11th in assists (6.8) through games of Nov, 25. Reynolds (15.7 ppg) and Me'Arah O'Neal (15.6) make the Gators the only team in the nation with three players averaging 15 or more points.
Memphis is 4-3 in 2025-26 following a 70-64 win over Louisiana Tuesday evening. The Tigers return just two players from the 2024-25 team—All-Conference Freshman Team member Tamya Smith and redshirt sophomore forward Bailey Gilmore.
Senior guard Chaé Harris is Memphis' leading scorer averaging 18.3 points per game in her first season with the Tigers. Junior guard Daejah Richmond is Memphis' lone other double-digit scorer at 10.4 points per game. Florida is the second SEC opponent the Tigers have faced this season. They led #13/#16 Ole Miss by as many as 13 in the second half on Nov. 18, but dropped a 73-64 overtime decision to the Rebels.
The Gators and Tigers split their two previous meetings, but have not squared off against one another since the 1999-2000 season when Florida picked up a 74-71 win in the second round of the WNIT.

- Through games of Tuesday, Nov. 25, Florida ranks ninth in the SEC this season in points per game (82.7), tied for 11th in scoring margin (+26.1), ninth in field goal percentage (.466), tied for sixth in steals (12.3), and fifth in turnover margin (+9.0).
- Liv McGill just missed out on her second career triple-double with a 26-point, 9-rebound, 9-assist effort vs. North Florida on Nov. 3. She came up two rebounds shy in the Gators following game against Chattanooga on Nov. 6 with 38 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds.
- Liv McGill became the first player in Gators women's basketball history to be named a US Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
