GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman — Florida sophomore Liv McGill was named the most outstanding player of the Cayman Islands Classic late Saturday evening, after leading the Gators to a pair of victories in the Thanksgiving weekend tournament.
The preseason All-SEC selection averaged 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4,0 assists, 2.00 steals and 1.00 blocked shots over two games as Florida improved to 8-1.
Against Memphis on Friday, Nov. 28, McGill scored 27 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out two assists and recorded two steals in Florida's 74-60 win over the Tigers.
On Saturday, Nov. 29 vs. Georgia Tech, the Minneapolis native dropped another 27 points, adding three rebounds, six assists, two steals and a pair of blocks, as the Gators upended the Yellow Jackets 65-56.
The Most Outstanding Player award adds to an ever-growing collection of accolades for McGill as she was named the SEC Player of the Week and a USBWA National Player of the Week on Nov. 11 of this year after averaging 27.7 points, 7.3 assists and 5.00 steals in the season's opening week.
Through games of Saturday, Nov. 29, McGill ranks second in the nation in scoring (26.3 ppg), tied for 19th in assists per game (6.0), and tied for seventh in steals per game (4.00).
Florida is 8-1 on the year, and a win Thursday at Virginia Tech would tie the program record for most victories through a season's first 10 games. Nine Gators teams have started the year with a 9-1 mark, most recently the 2022-23 version.
