
Gators Men’s Tennis Falls 5-2 to South Carolina

The Gators are now 33-10-1 against South Carolina and are 1-3 in the SEC after the team’s 5-2 loss to the Gamecocks at home.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators momentum from their win at Kentucky did not carry over to their SEC home opener against South Carolina, who was ranked at No. 22 by the ITA.
The Gators lost the doubles point for the fourth straight match, making the Gators 2-6 when losing the doubles point. Court one was held by No. 89 Lorenzo Claverie and Henry
Jefferson but the two were outplayed by No. 28 ranked Lucas Da Silva and Paul Barbier Gazeu with a 6-2 loss. The doubles point was taken by Charlie Swaine and Atakan Karahan who won 6-2 over Kevin Edengren and Andreas Timini on court three. Pablo Perez Ramos and Tanapatt Nirundorn were up 5-4 over No. 86 Max Stenzer and Sean Daryabeigi before the match went unfinished.
Florida started strong in singles, being up on four courts in the first set against the Gamecocks. Nirundorn was able to close out a straight set win (6-4, 6-3) over Gabe Avram, evening the score to 1-1. Losses from Claverie on court three and Jefferson on court one put the Gamecocks up 3-1. Edengren kept the Gators in the game at 3-2 after a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Charlie Swaine. The match was clinched on court four by Atakan Karahan who defeated Jeremy Jin. Ramos closed out the match with a three-set loss on court two at the hands of No. 51 Sean Daryabeigi, resulting in the Gators 5-2 loss.
