
Florida Sweeps Singles For 4-1 Win Over Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. — Inclement weather forced Ole Miss and Florida indoors Saturday afternoon, and after the 30th-ranked Rebels took the doubles point, the No. 23 Gators swept the four completed singles matches to upend Ole Miss, 4-1. It is the second time this season that Florida beat the Rebels, as the Gators picked up a 4-2 victory at the ITA Kickoff Weekend at NC State on Jan. 26.
Doubles
The lineups were slightly different from their previous meeting, but the doubles result was the same as Ole Miss' Andrea Nova and Emily Welker (85th in the nation) bested Xinyi Nong and Nikola Daubnerova (19th) at the number one slot, and Alice Soulie and Riley Crowder topped Valery Gynina and Brooke Black 6-4 at number two. At number three doubles, Lucie Pawlak and India Houghton were tied at five apiece with Brooklyn Olson and Beatrice Stagno when the Rebels clinched the doubles point.

The singles lineups were likewise re-jiggered, with Houghton (103rd in the nation) taking the top spot for the Gators, beating the 12th ranked player in the nation in Welker, 6-3, 6-3. Daubnerova (72nd) was next into the clubhouse as she topped Ichino Horikawa 6-4, 6-2 at number six singles. Black picked up a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision over Nova at number four singles, and No. 26 Gabia Paskauskas closed out the match with a 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 win over Olson in the three slot. Nong and Crowder split their first two sets at number five, and Soulie and Gynina were likewise knotted at one set apiece at number three and Soulie leading 5-4 in the third, when The Gators secured the win.
