Bio
AS A SENIOR (2006): Chosen to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Did not participate in any games for Florida.
AS A JUNIOR (2005): Did not see any action during his first season as a Gator.
AT CENTRAL FLORIDA C.C. (2004): Played for one season under head coach Marty Smith. The Patriots captured the Mid-Florida Conference title and were the runner-up at the Florida Community Colleges Athletic Association (FCCAA) Tournament. Helms made 16 appearances and was 2-1 with a 4.19 earned run average. Collected a team-best three saves and totaled 30 strikeouts in 19.1 innings. Opponents batted .229 against him. He previously attended Warner Southern College but was redshirted during the 2002 campaign.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach David Saliba at Winter Haven High School and graduated in 2001. Earned first-team all-district and was chosen to the Polk County All-Star Team. During his senior season, he was 7-3 on the mound with 85 strikeouts. Sported a batting average of .380 and an on-base percentage of .590. Had a single-game high of 10 K. Member of the National Honor Society.
