David’s Huge Debut, Women’s Milers Shine as No. 1/4 Gators Close Out Tyson Invitational, Iowa State Classic
Saturday, February 13, 2016 | Track and Field
Florida saw four individual performances crack the program's all-time indoor top 10
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Although there were no demonstrative adjectives used to recap Florida's performance on day two of the Tyson Invitational and Iowa State Classic, the Gators turned in yet another solid day on the track and in the field, posting four more times or marks inside the top 16 of the NCAA Division I Indoor Descending Order List.
Another four times or marks landed on the program's all-time top 10 list as well.
One of the day's top performances came from freshman Yanis David, who, in only her third collegiate attempt, posted the No. 3-ranked triple jump mark in school history (13.50m/44-3.5). The leap is also the second-longest by a Division I athlete this year.
David took home the event title as well, defeating 2012 Olympian and two-time United States indoor champion Amanda Smock by 7.5 inches.
Upperclassmen Robin Reynolds and Shayla Sanders once again clocked impressive times in the same event, doing so in the 200 meters. Reynolds crossed in 23.10 seconds, moving up to No. 2 on Florida's all-time indoor top 10. Sanders covered the distance in 23.39 seconds, earning the No. 16 spot on the Descending Order List.
Also for the women, Elisabeth Bergh, Taylor Tubbs, and Becky Greene teamed up for a 5-6-7 finish in the mile at the Iowa State Classic. Bergh's time (4:42.26) ranks ninth in UF history, while Tubbs bolstered her No. 10 ranking on the program's indoor top 10 with a time of 4:42.28.
For a second consecutive day, freshman Ryan Clark shined for the men. The College Park, Ga. native matched the No. 13-ranked time in Division I in the 200 meters (20.93), taking eighth overall in the invitational race.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
On his overall takeaways from day two at the Tyson Invitational…
"We had some good things happen today. I was very proud of the ladies again. Robin (Reynolds) and Shayla (Sanders) did a good job in the 200 (meters). Ryan Clark did a good job today; he had a great weekend. I also thought Kunle Fasasi did a good job.
"In the jumps today, Yanis David was big. And I thought Darrielle McQueen did a good job of backing up what she did a few weeks ago."
On where he believes the men's and women's teams are at heading into SEC Indoor Championships…
"We've got some injury problems on the men's side. We're just not very good right now on the men's side, because we're just banged up. We've got to get that figured out, get everybody healthy and training so we can be competitive.
"On the women's side, I think we are in a great spot. We just can't lose our focus, we can't lose our direction. We've got to be back (in Fayetteville) in two weeks, and it's going to be a great meet. Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M, and the rest of the conference—it's always a great meet. We've got to come back here and, honestly, be a little healthier and be a little bit sharper mentally in terms of our competitive edge."
On the strong outing in the women's mile this afternoon at the Iowa State Classic…
"I thought they did a good job. Jack Beitter did a great job (in the men's mile). Ryan (Schnulle) and Andres (Arroyo) were a little bit off in the 800 (meters); we've got to get back to work and figure out what's going on with them.
"Again, like everything else, we just didn't seem to be ourselves today. That falls on my shoulders. I'm the head coach, so I have to figure out what's going on. When we're back here in two weeks, we've got to be better, because that's what we're supposed to do."
AND THEY'RE OFF TO…
The Gators will have roughly two weeks to train and get healthy for the SEC Indoor Championships, which will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. on Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27.
