Florida Begins Road Weekend with Mississippi State Friday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 16 University of Florida men's tennis team is on the road this weekend for two SEC contests after a strong showing at the Ring Tennis Complex last weekend. First up, the Gators will face the No. 24 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday night at 6 p.m. ET at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
Florida steamrolled two Top-25 opponents last weekend at home in the then-No. 13 Arkansas Razorbacks and then-No. 22 Ole Miss Rebels. The Gators jumped eights spots in the latest ITA rankings to No. 16 with four singles players and two doubles pairings in the individual rankings
The Orange and Blue will continue its road trip to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Series History with the Bulldogs
Florida leads the all-time series with Mississippi State, 34-18
Last Serve with Mississippi State
The Gators fell to the Bulldogs in the 2015 SEC Tournament quarterfinals on April 17, 2015. Florida was able to secure the doubles point but ultimately fell short in singles with only two victories from Elliott Orkin and Gordon Watson.
Freshmen Impressing Early
UF freshmen Alfredo Perez and McClain Kessler have found success in SEC singles play. This week, Perez was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. The Havana, Cuba native extended his singles winning streak to eight matches, including five of those matches coming in SEC play. Kessler is 4-1 in SEC play and clinched the match for the Gators against No. 22 Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon.
