Florida, Vanderbilt Match Up Set for Friday Night

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 11 University of Florida men's tennis team returns to the Ring Tennis Complex on Friday night at take on the No. 43 Vanderbilt Commodores in their lone match of the weekend. First serve is set for 5 p.m. ET.
Florida is coming off a successful road weekend where they defeated two ranked opponents, Mississippi State and Alabama, led by stellar singles play. UF dropped the doubles point in each of the road contests but still found four singles victories in each of the matches.
UF moved up five spots in this week's ITA team rankings to No. 11 and is currently second in the SEC team standings behind Georgia. Florida has one non-conference match this Wednesday night against No. 3 Virginia at 5 p.m.
Last Serve with the Commodores
Florida's late rally against Vanderbilt on March 7, 2015 fell short in Nashville with the then-No. 11 Gators falling, 4-3 to the Commodores. The Gators grabbed singles victories from Lipman, Watson and Perez-Blanco.
Series History against Vanderbilt
The Orange and Blue lead the all-time series over the Commodores, 38-10-1.
Orkin Earns SEC Player of the Week
After a successful weekend on the road, Gator junior Elliott Orkin earned his first SEC Player of the Week nod. Orkin was 2-0 against a pair of ranked singles opponents and helped UF down two ranked opponents on their way to jumping five spots to No. 11 in this week's ITA rankings.
Number One in Doubles
In the recent Oracle ITA Rankings, the senior tandem of Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson are back to being the No. 1 doubles pair in the nation.
Freshmen Impressing Early
Gator freshmen Alfredo Perez and McClain Kessler each secured their first SEC singles victories are LSU and Texas A&M, respectively. Perez is 6-1 and Kessler is 5-2 in SEC singles dual matches.
