Gators Open Final Regular Season Weekend with Wildcats

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 13 University of Florida men's tennis team will close the 2016 regular season at the Ring Tennis Complex this weekend, beginning with a Top-20 match up against the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats on Friday night. First serve between the conference foes is set for 5 p.m. ET.
Florida returns to the Ring Tennis Complex for two matches this weekend to close out the regular season. The Gators were 1-2 last week with two 5-2 decisions against then-No. 3 Virginia and then-No. 7 Georgia, but were able to get back in the win column with a 6-1 decision in Columbia, S.C. The Orange and Blue are looking to finish the conference season strong leading up to the SEC Tournament that commences in Columbia, S.C. next Wednesday.
Florida will host the Tennessee Volunteers on Sunday afternoon, which will also serve as Senior Day for Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson. The festivities will begin at 12:45 p.m.
Last Serve with the Wildcats
The Gators and Wildcats matched up in the second round of the 2015 SEC Tournament on April 16, 2015 in College Station, Texas. After Hidalgo and Watson clinched the doubles point on court two, UF would take singles victories from Perez-Blanco and Lipman, while Watson clinched the match on court three via a tiebreaker in the second set. The 4-2 win would propel the Gators into the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals.

Dealing in Doubles
Seniors Hidalgo and Watson are again at the top of the ITA Doubles Rankings after two wins over Virginia's No. 2-ranked pairing and Georgia's No. 4-ranked pairing in a span of three days last week.

Hidalgo was named the SEC Player of the Week on Wednesday for his outstanding week taking down five ranked opponents in three matches over a span of five days.
1,200 and Counting
With their bounce-back win over South Carolina on April 10, the men's tennis program recorded his 1,200th program win.
