Three Gators Selected on Second Day of MLB Draft

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three Gators were selected on Friday during day two of the 2016 Major League Basebal Draft. Shaun Anderson was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the third round, Scott Moss was taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth round and Kirby Snead was selected in the 10th round by the Toronoto Blue Jays. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan's squad has tallied eight selections thus far in the 2016 draft. The Gators have now had 69 picks in his nine-year tenure (three in 2008, 10 in 2009, six in 2010, 11 in 2011, nine in 2012, seven in 2013, six in 2014, nine in 2015).
After A.J. Puk was selected No. 6 overall by the Oakland A's and Dane Dunning went 29th to the Washington Nationals in the first round last night, Logan Shore and Buddy Reed were selected by the A's and San Diego Padres, respectively, and Peter Alonso was taken 64th overall by the New York Mets in the second round.
Early Friday afternoon, Anderson was taken by Boston in the third round at No. 88. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA and 13 saves this season. Overall, the Coral Springs, Fla. native has recorded 56 strikeouts in 43.0 innings pitched over 33 appearances out of the bullpen.
Anderson is currently tied with Josh Fogg (1998) and Danny Wheeler (1994) for the school record for saves in a season.
With the second pick of the fourth round junior lefty Scott Moss was selected by the Reds. The Deltona, Fla. product is 3-0 this season with a 1.59 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched. Moss was sidelined for his first two seasons at Florida by Tommy John surgery, but has pitched well in limited action this spring.
Snead was the final UF player selected on Friday. He has a 2.78 earned run average with a 3-1 record and one save out of the bullpen. His 39 appearances are the most in the SEC and he is one shy of 100 appearances in his career.
