JACKSONVILLE—After a pitching duel for much of the game, Jacksonville scored three runs in the ninth to beat Florida 3-2 in Jacksonville on Tuesday night. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night in Gainesville at 6:30 p.m. at McKethan Stadium
Â
Jacksonville's Scott Dubrule hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded in the ninth to cap a three-run comeback for the Dolphins, handing Florida its first midweek loss since April 14, 2015 at Florida State.
Â
Sophomore
Michael Byrne started for the Gators and was dominant through seven innings, racking up eight strikeouts with no runs allowed. On the opposite side, JU's Casey Kulina allowed two runs early but settled in and limited UF to five hits through the first seven innings.
Â
The Gators got on the board first in the top of inning with help from a Jacksonville error.
Mike Rivera reached second after a high throw from the JU third baseman and moved to third on a grounder by
Nelson Maldonado.
Mark Kolozsvary picked up the RBI with a grounder to second to give Florida a 1-0 lead.
Â
UF generated another run in the third after
Dalton Guthrie led off with a single. After a wild pitch moved Guthrie to second,
Deacon Liput's grounder advanced Guthrie to third and he scored on
Jonathan India's RBI groundout.
Â
The game settled in until the ninth inning, when both teams threatened at the plate. After the Gators got back-to-back one-out singles from Rivera and
Austin Langworthy UF had a chance to get some insurance. However, Rivera got thrown out at home on
Ryan Larson's single to center field and
Blake Reese was unable to bring in the run.
Â
After Florida couldn't capitalize, the Dolphins led off the ninth with back-to-back singles off UF's
Frank Rubio.
Â
Rubio struck out the next batter before being replaced for the lefty-lefty matchup by freshman
Andrew Baker. Jacksonville struck immediately as Sam Armstrong roped a double off the left field wall that tied the game at two.
Â
The Dolphins then drew consecutive walks to load the bases and Dubrule took advantage of the drawn-in infield with a single to left to score the winning run.

POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Kevin O'Sullivan
"We knew we were going to be young in the bullpen, but these are the types of experiences that Andrew's going to have to get for us to be where we want to be at the end of the year. We had some other scoring opportunities – we got thrown out at the plate there in the ninth, we had a runner on third with Deacon up, left on left, and he struck out and didn't put the ball in play. All those runs count.
Â
"Bottom line is
Michael Byrne pitched outstanding. He was really good. I think
Nick Horvath did a nice job, we gave up back-to-back hits in the ninth with Frank and we went to Baker, who first two times out was very good. I know this is a road game for him and he's only a freshman, but these are experiences that he's going to learn from.
Â
"Obviously it's disappointing the way the game turned out, but there's a lot of positives. At the end of the day, we talked about this before the season started, we are young in the bullpen and we're going to need to score some runs in the midweek games. Our weekend pitching is dynamite, and we can ride those guys a little bit more, but when we get these midweek games we've got to score more than two runs."
