GAINESVILLE, Fla.—Florida capped off a sweep of Miami with a 6-2 victory on Sunday at McKethan Stadium. The sweep was the Gators' first of the Hurricanes since 2012.
 
Starting pitcher Jackson Kowar went 5.2 innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just one run. The seven strikeouts push Kowar's season total to 17, tied with Brady Singer for the team lead.
 
In three games this weekend, the Florida pitching staff allowed just two runs on 12 hits in 27 total innings. The starting pitchers, Alex Faedo, Brady Singer and Kowar, combined for 22 innings and allowed just one run with 26 strikeouts.

Dalton Guthrie reached base for the seventh game in a row, tallying three hits and a walk with two RBI. Guthrie has notched a hit in six of the seven games this season and leads the team with 11 hits.

Miami scored its first run of the series when sophomore outfielder Romy Gonzalez hit a solo homerun in the top of the fourth. The run broke a 27-inning scoreless streak by Florida's starting pitchers.
 
In the bottom of the same inning, a single from Deacon Liput and double from Nelson Maldonado put runners on second and third. Christian Hicks drove in Liput with a sacrifice fly to center field and a Nick Horvath single to right push Maldonado across. Guthrie followed by driving a double to right, scoring Horvath for a 3-1 lead.
 
Florida would push across runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, courtesy of a JJ Schwarz sacrifice fly, a Guthrie single and a Maldonado sacrifice fly respectively.
 
The Hurricanes would score one more run after Gonzalez his second solo shot of the game in the eighth inning.
 
Miami starter Michael Mediavilla threw 82 pitches over four innings, giving up four hits, four walks and two runs. The loss was Mediavilla's second of the season.
 
The crowd for the weekend sweep was record setting. With Sunday's attendance of 5,262, the total for the three-game series was 16,807, the highest in McKethan Stadium history.
 
The next game for the Gators will be against UCF on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the McKethan Stadium.

"(All of the wins) feel good. The food tastes a little bit better after a weekend like this. I thought today was our best offensive day. Seven of our nine starters got hits, opened the game up in the fourth with three runs and tacked on a run in each of the next three innings. I thought Jackson (Kowar) did a really nice job. Michael Byrne came in and got a big strikeout there in the sixth and (Austin) Langworthy, you see how effective he is when he comes in behind those hard throwers and it's hard to make an adjustment, it disrupts your timing a little bit. All in all, it was a very good weekend, we got some great starting pitching from Alex (Faedo) and from Brady (Singer). Obviously today was a combination of good starting pitching, good relief pitching, timely hitting, we executed well at the plate, got some runners at third with less than two outs and played great defense, no errors. All in all, it was certainly a step in the right direction and I'm just excited for the players."
