INDIANAPOLIS – On August 12, 2016, Joseph Schooling beat Michael Phelps to win a 100 fly gold medal at the Rio Olympics.
On March 24, 2017, Caeleb Dressel beat Joseph Schooling to win a 100 fly national title at the NCAA Championships.
Dressel's time of 43.58 set a new NCAA, American, U.S. Open and IU Natatorium pool record and gave him his first NCAA championship in the event, upending Schooling, the two-time defending champion from Texas.

With just one day left at NCAAs, Florida still ranks third in the team standings with 224.5 points.
As for tonight's other finals performances:
400 IM
Mark Szaranek's success from last night's 200 IM national title carried over into tonight. The junior competed in the 400 IM final, placing third at 3:36.31. That time set a new career-best for Szaranek, marked the fifth-fastest 400-yard IM performance ever and broke his own school record from last month's SEC Championships.
200 free
Florida also found success in the 200 free, with one Gator up and one down in the finals. Jan Switkowski started off the event in the consolation final, winning with a mark of 1:32.51.
Maxime Rooney, the youngest competitor in the event, touched sixth in 1:32.79 in the championship final. He earned his first individual All-America honor.
200 medley relay
Florida snapped its third school record of the night in the meet's penultimate relay. Going with the lineup of Jack Blyzinskyj, Chandler Bray, Szaranek and Dressel, the Gators touched fifth in 1:23.08. The previous record of 1:23.44 by Blyzinskyj, Bray, Jan Switkowski and Dressel was short-lived, also coming from the 2017 SEC Championships.
Florida continues NCAAs tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET with 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay prelims. Platform trials will follow at noon ET.
