Florida is looking to add more NCAA East Preliminary qualifiers prior to the SEC Outdoor Championships (May 11-13)
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida will host its second and final home meet of the 2017 campaign, the Tom Jones Memorial, Friday (April 28) at Percy Beard Track.
The Gators, ranked No. 2 on the men's side and No. 6 on the women's side of the latest USTFCCCA National Team Rankings, are looking to add to their large bundle of NCAA East Preliminary qualifying times and marks. Two of them could come from Anders Eriksson (hammer throw) and Kunle Fasasi (400 meters), who both open their outdoor seasons Friday.
Eriksson won the SEC title and finished fifth at NCAA Outdoors last year, while Fasasi took sixth place in the 400 final at NCAA Outdoors last June.
Redshirt senior Kyra Jefferson opened her outdoor season in the 400, but she will run her first 200 meters race of the year. The Detroit, Mich. native won the indoor 200 national title in 2015. Last year, she ran the 100 meters for the first time in her collegiate career, eventually going on to win the SEC title in just her third time running the event.
