Florida Seeks Redemption Against Virginia in NCAA Round of 16
Wednesday, May 17, 2017 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. – The UF men's tennis team is looking forward to its round of 16 match against Virginia after sweeping both of its first round opponents. No. 15 seed Florida will face No. 2 seed Virginia on Friday, May 18th at 9:00 a.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at the University of Georgia.
No. 15 seed Florida knows that some tough competition is ahead, as the No. 2 seed Cavaliers have defeated the Gators in the last four matches in their series. Virginia took down the Gators earlier this season in Charlottesville, and knocked UF out of the NCAA Tournament last season to go on and win the title for the second year in a row.
That being said, it has been done before. Florida earned two upset wins this season against USC and UCLA – both earned top-5 rankings in the tournament this year.
Florida has defeated seven teams in the postseason after losing to them in the regular season (since 1991):
Despite the possibility of an upset, Florida knows that a win will not be handed over easily. Virginia is looking to become the fifth program to win three consecutive national championships, and maintain its 13-match win streak.
The match will kick off Thursday, May 18th at 9:00 a.m. at the front courts of the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
