Florida will look to add to its current cachet of highly-ranked national times and marks this weekend
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Florida, up to No. 5 on the women's side and enjoying a firm grip on the men's No. 1 spot of the latest USTFCCCA National Team Rankings, heads to the Razorback Invitational fresh off an outstanding weekend.
The Gators posted 10 national top 10 times and marks, including NCAA leaders by Grant Holloway (60-meter hurdles) and the men's and women's 4x400 relays, at the Clemson Invitational.
Also among those performances was freshman Amanda Froeynes, who posted the second-highest pentathlon score in the country this year (4,199 points); she also became the sixth Division I freshman since 2010 to score at least 4,199 points. While Froeynes will not take part in the pentathlon this weekend, she will compete in the long jump and 60 hurdles.
Holloway, whose exploits last weekend earned him USTFCCCA Division I Men's National Athlete of the Week honors, will take a break from hurdling and sprinting to open his season in the long jump Friday night.
Joining him in the men's long jump will be reigning indoor national champion KeAndre Bates and sophomore Clayton Brown. Bates ranks tied for sixth nationally, but will also look to atone for fouling out of the triple jump last weekend. Brown is tied for eighth nationally in the triple jump, and set a personal record in the long jump last weekend, though he should eclipse both those marks Friday and Saturday.
The 400 meters invitational races could be the highlights of the meet for the Gators.
For the women, junior Sharrika Barnett, a national qualifier indoors and outdoors last year, runs her first quarter-mile of the year. Last weekend, Barnett split 50.56 seconds, anchoring Florida's 4x400 relay to a massive comeback victory over Kentucky and a nation-leading time.
Same goes for junior Kunle Fasasi and freshman Benjamin Lobo Vedel. Fasasi made the final at NCAA Indoor Championships last season, while Lobo Vedel boasts fast times in the 200 and 300 meters this year. Lobo Vedel's time of 21.03 from last weekend's Clemson Invitational 200 meters broke the Danish indoor record and ranks tied for ninth nationally. His 300 meters time of 32.80 seconds three weeks ago was also a Danish record and tied the fourth-fastest time in collegiate history.
There are nine nationally-ranked women's teams and six nationally-ranked men's teams competing in Fayetteville this weekend.
SEC Network will provide television coverage at 2 p.m. ET Saturday, while Friday's action will be available on SEC Network + at 7 p.m. ET.
