Gators Punch 8 More Eugene Tickets at NCAA East Preliminary

Florida's qualified 17 for NCAA Outdoors, and it has advanced 15 of its 21 runners through preliminary races in two days of competition
TAMPA, Fla. – Florida's men and women combined for another eight NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifications Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary, bringing their two-day total to 17.
Freshman quarter-miler Chantz Sawyers secured Florida's first NCAA Outdoors ticket of the day, clocking a personal record of 45.40 seconds, good enough to make him one of the three time qualifiers.
Shortly thereafter, junior Sharrika Barnett and freshman Taylor Manson nabbed automatic NCAA Outdoors berths with a 2-3 finish in Heat 2 of the women's 400 meters. This marks the first time since 2014 the Gators will send two women's quarter-milers to NCAA Outdoors. In addition, Manson is the first freshman since Alishea Usery (2009) to qualify as a freshman. Manson also lowered her personal record by almost half a second (51.84), tying her with Denise Mitchell for No. 9 on Florida's All-Time Top 10.
This will be the second consecutive NCAA Outdoors appearance for Barnett, who finished fifth last year and fourth at this year's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Junior sprinter Ryan Clark was next in the ticketing line. The College Park, Ga., native booked a spot for the NCAA Outdoors 100 meters with a personal record of 10.16. Clark, who qualified each of the last two seasons, now ranks eighth on Florida's All-Time Outdoor Top 10 list. He is the first Gator since Terrell Wilks (2008-11) to make the NCAA Outdoors 100 meters in each of his first three collegiate seasons.
Clark added a second Florida All-Time Top 10 time in the 200 meters roughly 90 minutes later. His wind-legal time of 20.43 seconds ranks 10th on the school's list, and qualified him for Saturday's final.
Cory Poole locked up his first Eugene berth in the 400-meter hurdles, becoming the first Florida freshman to qualify since collegiate record holder and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Kerron Clement (2005). On the women's side of the 400 hurdles, sophomore Brandee' Johnson ran a season-best time of 57.01 seconds to secure her first NCAA Outdoors berth, and freshman Nikki Stephens, who was seeded 19th, clocked a 1.07-second personal record (57.21 – No. 6 on Florida's All-Time Top 10) to qualify on time.
Johnson and Stephens are both the first Florida underclassmen 400 hurdlers to qualify for NCAA Outdoors since at least 1998. It is also the first time during that span two Gators qualified.
Senior Lloydricia Cameron, who already qualified in the shot put yesterday, added an NCAA Outdoors ticket in the discus throw. It is Cameron's first NCAA Outdoors berth in the discus, and she became the first Gator since LaQuanda Cotten (2004) to qualify in both the shot put and discus.
Sophomore and defending national champion Grant Holloway (110-meter hurdles), Johnson (100-meter hurdles), and Poole (110 hurdles) joined Clark in advancing through their respective preliminary races.
The top 48 individual and top 24 relay declarations within the East and West Regions earned berths to their respective preliminary meet. The top 12 individuals and 12 relays from each regional competition advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., slated for June 6-9.
FloTrack will continue to provide live streaming for the final day of competition, though it requires a paid subscription. Links to the streaming information, as well as ticketing and additional meet information are below.
