Six Gators Selected to compete in NCAA Individual Tennis Championships

Three singles competitors and three doubles teams selected for NCAA Individual Championships
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Florida men's tennis team had six individuals chosen to compete in 2018 NCAA Division I Singles and Doubles Championships, the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee announced Wednesday evening.
 
Earning at-large selections into the singles competition for Florida are Oliver Crawford, Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen. In doubles the Gator duo of Perez and Ingildsen earned the No. 4 national seed. McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale earned an at-large berth while Crawford and Chase Perez-Blanco earned an alternate spot.

This will be Perez and Ingildsen's second consecutive appearance in doubles after earning All-America honors last season by reaching the round of 16. In singles Perez is making his third straight appearance with a round of 32 finish as a freshman and a round of 16 finish last season. Crawford, Kessler, Vale and Perez-Blanco will each be competing in the individual championships for the first time.
 
Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championship is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams.
 
Championship Notes
• The championship event will be played at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.
• The tournament will be held May 23-28 and start the day after the team championship concludes
• The championship field includes 64 singles competitors and 24 doubles teams
• The bracket will be released on May 22
• All matches will be played in a best of three format with no-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreak at six-games-all (first to seven points, must win by two)
• In doubles there will be a 10-point tiebreak instead of playing a third set
